Experience Timeless Beauty with Radiesse

In fact, Dr. Maas was a principle investigator in the FDA trials of Radiesse® injection, which was ultimately cleared for use in 2006. Considered a ‘new generation’ filler, Radiesse® differs from other cosmetic fillers in that it is comprised of very tiny, smooth calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres. CaHA is a biomaterial with over twenty years of use in orthopedics, neurosurgery, dentistry, and ophthalmology, and is the primary mineral constituent of bone and teeth. Radiesse® is synthetic CaHA that has similar characteristics to bone and teeth and is naturally compatible with the body.

The 'New Generation' Filler for Long-Lasting Natural Results

The CaHA microspheres (particles) form a scaffold through which your body’s own collagen grows and is reputed to produce a longer-lasting effect. Over time, your body absorbs the gel carrier while collagen has started to grow and infiltrate the area, replacing the gel with your own, natural tissue. The Radiesse® microspheres continue to provide the support and structure for your body to grow new tissue and collagen until the microspheres are also safely and naturally absorbed into your body.

Radiesse® has been approved for use in many countries and in the U.S. has been cleared for the treatment of the nasolabial fold known as smile lines and facial wasting in HIV-positive patients. Other applications are still being evaluated.

Belotero

Belotero® has been recently approved by the Food and Drug Administration to add volume to moderate-to-severe facial wrinkles and folds.

Belotero® is a monophasic hyaluronic acid-based soft tissue derma filler with special cross-linking technology known as cohesive polydensified matrix (CPM) technology. As a key consultant for Merz Corporation and one of San Francisco’s principle thought leaders on cosmetic injections, Dr. Maas was a principle investigator for the Food and Drug Administration’s Belotero® clinical trials.

Thus, Dr. Maas has the longest experience with Belotero® in San Francisco for over 6 years. His work with this product led to several key technique developments as well as observations about Belotero’s performance that make it unique amongst the approved HA fillers including Restylane, Juvederm, and Hydrelle.

Achieve a Lasting, Natural Cosmetic Effect

One of the special characteristics of Belotero’s CPM technology is the absence of the bluish hue (Tyndell effect) seen with all other HAs when used to treat areas of thin skin like the eyelid area. Belotero’s unique structure completely fills the dermal paces and produces a lasting natural cosmetic effect with smooth transitions between treated and untreated areas. As mentioned previously, an advantage of Belotero® is that the other hyaluronic acid fillers can cause a bluish hue if they are injected too superficially, as light reflected through the skin may bounce off the clear filler. This is not the case with Belotero®. In this sense, this product fills the needed niche, as a long-lasting filler for superficial wrinkles that can be administered close to the surface of the skin without causing a blue hue.

A Natural Solution for Aging Skin

Hyaluronic acid is a substance found in the body’s connective tissues that occurs naturally. As its supply dwindles with advancing age, injections of Belotero® or other hyaluronic acid-based fillers can increase volume, creating a more youthful appearance. Other hyaluronic acid-based fillers also available in the United States include Juvederm®, Restylane®, Peralne® and Prevelle Silk®. These products are excellent filler options for nasal labial folds, lips, or the tear trough area. Belotero® has been widely used in Europe and Canada for years and is now available in the United States.

Dr. Maas is a known pioneer with injectibles such as Botox® and Dysport®, Purtox, and facial fillers. Ground-breaking research at the San Francisco Research Center at The Maas ClinicTM with the newer fillers including Elevesse and Xeomin shows promise. The Research Center’s clinical trials started Dr. Maas’ early experience injecting Belotero® as a lead investigator, conducting a clinical trial on the safety and efficacy of Boletero®.

Blepharoplasty

To minimize the appearance of dark circles under the eyes, the use of derma facial fillers is an excellent solution. Dark circles can be caused by several different factors. In many individuals, the skin directly under the eyes is very thin so that the muscle and blood vessels can be seen more clearly. Dark circles can also be the result of fat bulging in the lower eyelid or insufficient fat directly underneath the eye (tear trough), giving a “hollow” appearance.

By injecting fillers such as Restylane®, Radiesse®, or Juvederm® into this tear-trough area, the shadow is less noticeable, making you look more rested. Swelling and or bruising after the injections can occur in some patients, but is usually minimal and easily covered with makeup, such as Oxygenetics™ which is a mineral-based foundation that is safe to use during healing and very effective at covering minor post-operative bruising.

Adjustable Results with Belotero®

An advantage of all hyaluronic-based products; biphasic or monophasic is that if you are unhappy with the results, injections of an enzyme called hyaluronidase can dissolve all or part of it, eliminating the effects. Early research work at Duke University suggests that this “adjustability” may be less with Belotero® than with other HA products.

There is no allergy testing required with Belotero® or any of the other hyaluronic acid products. Corey S. Maas MD™ and the staff at The Maas Clinic™ in San Francisco and Reno Tahoe look forward to answering any questions you may have about your Belotero® Injections in San Francisco.
