“Talking a little bit about laser hair removal today and one of the questions that came up is about the prevention of adverse advance scaring or pigment problems, and I would say that they’re quite unusual when laser hair removal is done properly.
There’s a really important aspect to our protocol for treating patients with laser hair removal and that is that we give a small test spot, one or two spots or areas that we will observe and make sure that the right skin or tissue reaction is seen. There should be a little bit of redness, a little bit of redness around the bulb of the hair, the hair shaft, and the shaft might actually ejec from the tube or the shaft from which the hair arises and those are all good signs. If we see graying of the tissue or an intense redness that would mean the treatment, the settings were a little too high for that particular skin type, and we turn that down, do another skin test, and of course then once we get it tuned properly we continue the treatment which is quiet rapid.
There are newer laser technologies that can treat an area that’s big or round as a plum really in one single spot and that those newer technologies really have improved the speed and the comfort of laser removal, the light sheer duet again being the device that offers that option speed and more comfort.
In general the side effects in terms of lighter pigment or scarring are very, very rare and the most important thing about it is taking care of the area. If you were to get blisters after the treatment, which would be something like a bad sunburn, this not an heard of. It’s really about taking care of those areas just like you would getting a little blistering sunburn. You put antibiotic ointment or cream on it until the blister have resolved. Make sure that you don’t get any sign of infection and seek treatment from the provider, the nurse or physician that has provide the treatment if you see those types of side effects. In general, those are very short-lived, have no long term side effects or down sides to them. They heal quite quickly.
